West Penn or Allegheny - UPMC not taking Aetna
Had my RNY in December and it is the best thing I ever did. I do have a hernia from my hysterectomy 12 years ago and they found some ovarian cycts that need to be removed.
Finally agreed to get these fixed, so Tuesday I call the surgeon (after consent forms and preop done by Dr) only to find out UPMC no longer takes Aetna insurance. (there is a big lawsuit, yada yada... it just ain't going to happen). To add insult to injury, my local hosptial Weirton is also being bought out by UPMC.
Need to find out if anyone has used any gastric doctors at West Penn or Allegheny Hospital? They are not part of UPMC. My local PCP said she would work to get me accepted by a gastric doctor if I could find one from one of those 2 hospitals that are reliable. (she knows about OH and asked if I would post this question to help her).
So, anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance for any input. My HR dept is going crazy trying to fix this situation (which if you read the lawsuit is not going to be fixed quickly). My husband is disabled and requires ER visit about every 10 days. We will now have to go to a hospital 25 minutes away instead of the one 10 minutes away.
Look this is happening for a reason. There must be a reason I am not suppose to go to UPMC or Weirton. Trinity in Steubenville is OK and so far most of my husband's drs also work out of there. My gastric is the biggie. No one wants to touch RNY.
Thanks

Hi There,
I saw your message and want to let you know I have aetna also. My original surgeon actually left AGH in April and I want to see him and consult with him before I have any further surgeries. Well there is a lawsuit pending against him, so he is not able to see any patients. I just got an email Friday at working stating that they are changing our healthcare provider to Anthem BC/BS. Woo Hoo I can now go to more than one hospital in the area.
To answer your question I presently see Dr Miro Uchal at AGH. He was a partner with my original surgeon and I was treated by him also. I had severe complications last year during a conversion surgery and spent much time at AGH and with Dr Uchal. I am presently following up with him.
His number is 412-359-8630. If I can provide you any additional information please do not hesitate to contact me. I will do whatever I can to help.

Hi Brenda,
I'm sorry you are having such issues with the insurance. I dont have any personal experience with the gastric docs at either AGH or West Penn, but I know there are others here who have. I know that both hospital groups have a good reputation though. It's tough to have to change physicians especially when it isnt your choice .....hopefully some of the West Penn and AGH "alumni" will pop in and offer some info for you.
